I use knitting to explore mathematical ideas. I like the challenge of research and design, and the opportunity to create a tactile article that illustrates mathematics in a fun and interesting way.

In this collection, a different number of equilateral triangles (7, 6, or 5) are placed around each vertex to form a hyperbolic, Euclidean, or spherical tiling. The triangles are a variation of granny squares (adapted from a pattern by Edie Eckman) and can easily be folded, stretched, or otherwise manipulated to highlight the similarities and differences between the three tilings. These pieces are intended to be handled.
